Description
The doctrine of the deity of Lord Jesus Christ is the keystone of our Christian faith. Without this great truth all else is compromised. Christianity is not simply a religion, a philosophy, an ethical code or a creedâit is Christ!
Despite attempts to separate the âJesus of historyâ from the âJesus of Christian faith,â the incontrovertible evidence of the unique, well-authenticated documents of Scripture is that the Eternal Word became flesh and lived among men on planet Earth (cf John1:14;1 Tim. 3:16).
The only way to deny the truth of our Lordâs deity is to discredit the Biblical documents upon which it is based. âA man need not be a believer to admit that in asserting Christâs deity we make a fair translation of the Gospel story in the language of abstract thoughtâ (Liddon, ibid p 162).
It is no exaggeration to say that the doctrine of the deity of Christ impinges on every aspect of Christian theology. Without this great truth, Christâs saving sacrifice has no significance; sin has no remedy; mankind is lost; out hope of eternal life vanishes and to quote the Apostle Paul, âwe are to be pitied more than all menâ (1 Cor. 15: 19).
Our prayer is that the following pagesâ for all the inadequacies will stimulate the reader to further careful research into more comprehensive, evangelical treatises on Christology. At best, we trust that some will be pointed toward saving faith in our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who, with the father and the Holy Spirit, is worthy of our worship!
